San Elijo Hills residents All-Star eligibility

(Edited on May 2010 per Pony ruling) Starting with the 2010 Spring season, due to an unforseen change by PONY Baseball of LCYO All-Star eligibility boundaries, residents of San Elijo Hills (SEH) Community who have not played with LCYO in prior seasons will not be eligible for the season ending LCYO All-Star program. However, 1) if have played in most recent past season of FallBall 2009 or Spring 2009 with LCYO while 2) living at your SEH residence then you are grand fathered with LCYO and are eligible for all future LCYO All-Stars.

Please note, no matter where you live you have complete freedom to play in any PONY Baseball league of your choice and this change only effects those that have children that may be considered All-Star caliber, live in SEH, and who have never played LCYO in the past (only 15% of players make All-Stars).

Note: If you live in SEH, have never played with LCYO in the past, and are concerned about your son making All-Stars then please contact us and we'd be glad to direct you to another league.

If our son doesn't make his HS team can he play LCYO?

Players going out for their local High School (HS) teams that want LCYO Pony as a fallback position still need to register in advance, pay their fees, AND undergo player evaluations in January. If they make the HS team, they will not be eligible for Pony rec ball and will be refunded their registration fees. The main reason for this is that it helps a lot to track those players who may or may not be available once HS teams form so we can plan where they might go on our rosters.

If your son falls in this category, register and email the Pony Division Director, ponydirector@lcyo.org, and we'll keep a list of registered players who are going out for their HS teams and will keep them out of the general draft. If they do not make their HS teams, we will either have a supplementary draft for these kids or we'll place them in the fairest manner possible. Registering your son in advance also helps guarantee a roster spot if they don't make the HS team.

For those who don't register in advance and unfortunately find out their sons did not make their HS team, we will try to accommodate these kids as well by hopefully finding them a spot on a team. However, in the Spring of 2009 we had to turn away three players because they did not register in advance and we simply were at capacity on all teams.

2010 exclusion of returning High School players

For the Spring 2010 season, High School (HS) baseball players, who often finish their HS season towards the middle of May, will not be allowed to join our Spring season and, therefore, will not be eligible for our Pony Division All-Stars. Even though PONY Baseball allows for the return of High School players to a PONY Spring season, PONY Baseball provides the league (LCYO) the ability to construct "local law" enhancements of PONY rules that best address their immediate community. Our experience in allowing them to return in 2008 and 2009 created many challenges with placement on teams that were both at capacity and also 95% finished with their season. Allowing them to return for just 1-3 games in order to become eligible for All-Stars is agreed (by an overwhelming majority of polled coaches and board members) not appropriate for our recreation league and the intent of providing youth baseball for all - no matter what skill level.
